It’s finally that time of year again! Founded in 1850, the Ohio State Fair is one of the largest state fairs in America, and 2015 will be the State Fair’s 165th birthday. During the Ohio State Fair, which goes from July 29th to August 9th, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone in the family.
There will be live music including concerts by famous performers like Meghan Trainor, Deep Purple and Jake Owen.
Some of the exciting limited-time only attractions include a session by the Ohio State Beekeepers’ Association, who will present how to maintain your own beehive. For folks who attended the State Fair in 1965 or earlier, you are automatically a member of the 50 Year Club! There will even be a pork rib-off!
As for the food, never fear – the Ohio State Fair still features the best in local foods and meals, right here in Columbus. The Fair hosts nearly 200 food vendors selling classics like corn dogs and lemon shakeups, and also special fair foods like chocolate-covered bacon and deep-fried candy bars.
For the daring of heart, the fair will also feature exciting rides, such as the SkyGlider – one of the world’s longest portable sky rides that gives you an incredible bird’s eye view of the Fairgrounds! The Mountain Dew Midway, open every day, boasts over 60 rides sure to fit the whole family.
Kiddieland is the perfect place for the little ones, with classic rides like merry-go-rounds and bumper boats. And of course, who could forget the Giant Slide, a staple of the Ohio State Fair? If you’re ready to hike those 105 steps up to the 144-foot long slide, be sure to take a trip down this old Fair tradition!
Even if you can only make it for a short day, be sure to take the trip out to the Ohio State Fair and enjoy what it means to be a true and through Ohioan!
