Decluttering Your Apartment

The idea of living a simplified, uncluttered life with less stuff sounds attractive to many. That can be easier said than done though. The decluttering journey doesn’t need to be as painful as some make it out to be.

Be Realistic

You aren’t going to be able to keep an apartment clean if you try to do it all in one day. Taking 10-15 minutes each day to put things away and focus on an individual space will prevent you from spending a WHOLE day trying to organize your apartment.

Only Keep What You Need

First things first, sort through all of your belongings. The hardest part of decluttering your space is parting with things that you don’t need. To make this easier, donate items to a second home that may need them more than you.

If there is something in your closet you haven’t worn in a year, chances are you won’t ever again. You might think you will miss these things, but you will be relieved once they are gone!

Storage!

Storage containers will become your best friend! You might be hesitant to use them because you’re afraid they will take up space, but it is better to organize your things using these instead of leaving them sitting around. You can also utilize furniture that doubles as storage containers. For example, many ottomans can be employed this way. Also, buying a bed with drawers underneath is perfect for those who have a lot of clothing.

Another great storage technique is to go vertical. This tactic allows you to maximize the space you have. Hanging shelves is a great way to keep things organized and easily accessible in all rooms of your home.

Stay Clutter-Free

You don’t just wake up one morning with a bunch of clutter in your home. This is a slow process that happens when you don’t realize it. As you collect things you’ve impulse bought, received as a gift or just haven’t thrown away, your house slowly becomes disorganized. You can prevent this by being more mindful of how you spend your money.
