How Would You Spend Your Last Week On Earth in Columbus?

The Mayan calendar ends on Dec. 21, 2012, leading many to believe that the world will end on that day. According to Reuters survey of 16,000 people in 21 countries, at least 10 percent of the population is genuinely concerned that we’ll all be annihilated on that date. This raises the important question, If you had one week to live, what would you do in Columbus, Ohio?

“I’d hang out with as many friends and family as possible,” said Collin Russo, a 25-year-old Downtown resident when asked for his opinion on the topic. “Drinking the finest craft beer at World of Beer and having a nice juicy steak at Hyde Park would definitely be on the agenda.”

Thinking about the apocalypse can be overwhelming to some. On the other hand, many find it exciting to consider what they would do if the scenario ever occurred.

“I’d definitely stop studying for my law school exams, drink at Bernard’s, eat a chicken sandwich at Little Palace, and say goodbye to the ‘Shoe,” said German Village resident Alyson Letsky. “Essentially, I’d have no responsibilities!”

Numerous bars and restaurants throughout the city, such as Skully’s Music Diner, are having end of the world parties. On its website, it encourages patrons to join their apocalyptic toast at midnight. Their party boasts no cover for the ladies, but you’d think if the world were ending that night they’d let guys in for free too, right?

While everyone has different ideas about how they’d want to spend their last week on earth, for those who call Columbus home, making sure they hit up their favorite local spots with the people they care about the most seems to be the theme for the apocalypse.
